Dermal Fillers

Restylane (Restylane®, Juvederm®, Perlane ®, Radiesse®)

Dermal fillers consist of a gel that is injected into the skin in order to add volume to lips and lift up facial wrinkles and folds. They are made of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in your body. Once in the skin, dermal fillers work by creating volume. Some dermal fillers are derived from animal substances. Hyaluronic acid in all fillers used at IHP are non-animal.

How is a treatment performed? During treatment, the crystal-clear gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The gel produces volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. When enhancing lips or facial contours, they add volume and shape to the treated area.

How long will the treatment session take? Around 30 minutes to one hour. The time differs somewhat, depending on the correction you wish to have performed and analgesia selected.

What can be treated? Dermal fillers can be used for smoothing out folds and wrinkles, lip enhancements and shaping facial contours. The most common areas are the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips, although other sites can also be treated. Very superficial or very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct.

How long does the effect of a dermal filler treatment last? The length of time the effect of a dermal filler treatment lasts is very individual and depends on many factors, such as the structure of your skin, lifestyle, age, degree of perfection demanded. Experience indicates that touch-up and follow-up treatments will add to the duration. Most people choose to have a new treatment within a year after the treatment of wrinkles and folds and within 6 months after a lip enhancement.

Radiesse® is the ideal choice dermal filler for people with very deep smile lines, notable loss of volume to the mid face (thinning cheeks, temple concavity, formation of jowls) or used for facial contouring. This filler is a thick gel composed of particles called calcium hydroxyapatite that stimulate the body to produce new collagen. The results are immediate and last approximately one year. Patients are anesthetized with a topical agent for 20 minutes prior to the procedure to minimize discomfort. Although there is no significant down time for this procedure; patients can expect some bruising and swelling immediately after the procedure, lasting up to 14 days and thus we advise patients to schedule their appointments with this in mind.

JUVEDERM VOLUMA™ XC –The latest and greatest facial filler

Allergan, the makers of Juvederm and Botox, recently received approval from the FDA for Juvederm Voluma XC. It is the first filler approved to enhance cheek volume. Voluma is the latest and longest lasting injectable HA filler to hit the market. Voluma is comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally produced material in all of our skin. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that gives the skin a plump appearance. Levels of HA in the skin decline with age. Unlike other HA fillers,

Voluma is substantially more cross-linked, producing a filler that can actually lift the cheek and lasts considerably longer.

Voluma lasts up to two years and the results are visible immediately after injection. It is the only HA filler approved to enhance facial volume deficiency.

Voluma is the only HA filler approved to treat loss of facial volume.
